Mark Susinno has 3 prominent interests. He likes to fish. He has a great artistic talent for painting. And he has a passion for conservation. When you add these together, the result is a renowned fishing artist who travels the world to fish in beautiful, natural locales, where he gathers reference material, so he can preserve this beauty, both on canvas and through conservation efforts. Mark was born in Washington D.C., grew up in Maryland, and went to the Pratt Institute in New York on a full academic scholarship. After graduating with highest honors, and a fine arts degree, he worked at manual labor jobs for a few years, while still dabbling in art. He then won the 1986 Maryland Trout Stamp contest and decided to concentrate on art professionally. Since then, he has specialized in painting underwater depictions of fresh and saltwater gamefish, and along the way Mark has added 20 more fishing stamps to his credit. His love of fishing (and the need to gather reference material) has led Mark to Alaska after Pacific Salmon, Trout, Char, Sheefish, Grayling, and Pike; to Labrador for big Brookies; to Scotland and many locales for Trout; to Florida for Tarpon, Bonefish, Snook, Seatrout, Redfish, Permit, Dolphin; to the East Coast for Stripers, Bluefish; and to many places for his beloved Smallmouth Bass. Mark has supported conservation by donating art to many fishing related conservation organizations over the years, including Trout Unlimited, Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, Ducks Unlimited, American Fisheries Society, and NC State Veterinary School. In addition, Mark would be happy to discuss donating to a particular conservation organization a portion of the retail price of an original, that is directly purchased from him. His artwork is available at many sites, including Artists for Conservation, and Wild Wings L.L.C.
